Join me on my fossil journey
Hi my name is Max, welcome to my blog
I’ve always had a fascination with geology and collecting cool things from the earth as I believe they tell a story that dates back to tens of millions of years ago, but also because they’re rare and fun to find.
I have decided to create this blog to share my passion of fossils, photos, stories and information.
In 1996, a team of NASA scientists announced they had discovered evidence for microscopic fossil life in a meteorite from Mars
The Natural History Museum has a collection of fossilised poo, known as Coprolite, they are the fossilised faeces of animals that lived millions of years ago.
The first identified dinosaur fossil belonged to a Megalosaurus. An array of its bones, including a large lower jawbone, were found around 1815.
In 2011, construction worker Shawn Funk found the skeleton of a 110-million-year-old dinosaur at a work site in Alberta, Canada.
The word ‘fossil’ comes from the latin word fossus, which meand ‘dug up.’
Rarest dinosaur: Berthasaura Leopoldinae. Discovered in Brazil in 2021, it is the rarest dinosaur, and lived between 70 and 80 million years ago
They where discoverd in outback Queensland during a fossil dig.
They are powerful, flying predititors, with a wing span of up to 12 metres.
PhD candidate Adele Pentland led a research team from Curtin University which identified the new species as Haliskia peterseni.
Long before birds took wing, pterosaurs were the first vertebrate animals to fly.
It was found in Kronosaurus Korner which sits in a part of Queensland once covered by the shallow Eromanga Sea, and Ms Pentland said it was an area renowned for its significant fossil deposits.
hree young boys discovered a T-rex bone poking out of the ground while hiking in North Dakota. After its death around 67 million years ago, the T-rex was entombed in the Hell Creek Formation, a popular palaeontology playground that spans Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas.
The formation has yielded some of the most well-preserved T-rex fossils ever.
